Here are some tips to help you maximize your time at the farmer’s market:
- Go early! Try to get there as early as possible to get the best selection of produce
- Start a conversation. Ask the farmer/producer about growing practices, how often they sell at the market, if they offer anything on non-market days, and what varieties they grow.
- Be a repeat customer! Find producers that sell things that your family regularly eats and try to connect with them as many weeks as you can during the season.
- Try something new. Many times you’ll find unique heirloom varieties that aren’t available in retail stores. Ask about the flavor profile and give them a try! You may just find something new to grow in your own garden next year.
